“… The estimated technical resource of renewable energy sources (with predominant share of solar and wind energy) is at least 4.5 billion tons of reference fuel per year or four times higher than the overall volume of consumption of all Russian fuel-and-power resources.
According to RUSGIDRO Company, the estimated economic potential of small hydraulic energy in Russia is 2.1 GWt, tidal energy – over 100 GWT, wind energy – 8.6 GWt and geothermal energy – 0.6 GWt.
However, the economic potential of renewable energy sources depends on the existing conditions, costs, availability and quality of reserves of fuel-and-power resources and regional specifics. The potential varies with time and should be assessed specifically in the course of design and implementation of individual programs and projects targeted at the development of renewable energy. It should include a comprehensive evaluation of their specific input to the achievement of the above strategic goals.
It is suggested that in future Russia will ensure efficient and economically feasible growth of using various renewable energy sources for the generation of electrical and heat power and expand utilization of alternative fuels for transport and energy industry…”
